A double head stool of Pessare Dah; several cracks with a natural, brownish patina. This is an early work of this Artist and still strongly infuenced by Sikire Kambire.

The two heads show a great resemblance to the works collected by us from the youth of Pessare. At the same time, however, there are carvings that show that the artist had already worked for the tourism market, as did Sikire. The chair shows hardly any traces of use, which confirms the assumption that this is a work for the European export.
Lit. Thomas Keller, Sikire Kambire, page 167 ff.

In later works by Pessare, the artist has in part completely detached himself from the tradition of the Lobi chairs. This is also a receipt for the interaction between the traditional culture of the Lobi (like the chair offered here) and the influence from other parts of Africa, which certainly goes back to the influence of Western visitors to the Lobilandes. At the same time, Pessare Dah - as well as Sikire - has also produced carvings for the local fetishers.
