A Losso sculpture, Northern Togo, minimalistic in its shaping, flattened legs have no feet, stand on thick partly fragmentary round base, a cylindrical torso without hands, thick cylindrical neck supporting a rhomboid shaped head crowned by a sagittal, perforated crest, the face is rendered extremely schematically, a pointed mouth, bulging eyes; traces of age, ritual use and cracks, incl. stand.

The Lossos, referring to themselves as Nawdba (sg. Nawda) in their native Oti-Volta sub-group of Gur languages are an ethnic and linguistic group of people living in Northern Togo, on a plateau in the Togo Mountains. The district capital is Niamtougou which is also an important regional market town.
