A male Lobi sculpture, Bateba, collected close to Buna, Ivory Coast, standing on wedge-like feet and very long legs forming a zigzag profile on the back side, leading to a round buttocks, a columnar torso with sagging breasts, sloping shoulders terminating in elongated, slightly curved arms attached to the body, the shoulder-blades pronounced, the cylindrical neck supporting the spherical head with a projecting mouth beneath a short nose, framed by bulging eyes under arched brows, hemispherical ears projecting outwardly; heavy wood, with traces of blood encrustrations and ritual use.
