A Baule face mask, region Sakassou, Ivory Coast, of hollowed oval form, the oval mouth showing bared teeth, a slender nose upraising to high arched brows, circular tube-like eyes, scarification marks of varied geometrical motifs on the forehead, temples and at the corners of the mouth, the face capped by a striated domed coiffure with a pointed ornament in the front, a zigzag line around the face, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; fine brown patina, traces of ritual use and age, several cracks. Provenance Mohamed Belo Garba, Korhogo, Ivory Coast.
